What is Mercury Studio?

Mercury, when used in a thermometer, is both sensitive to and indicative of its surroundings. This is Mercury Studio: an environment that, from the very beginning, has formed itself according to the needs of its community. The need we see in Durham is for a positive, creative environment in which individuals and small businesses can work, collaborate, and thrive. A studio is, traditionally, a place where artists express and improve themselves through practicing their craft. Mercury Studio, though not exclusively a space for artists, is a place for individuals to express and improve themselves through practicing their craft, be it oil painting or software development.

As a coworking space, we provide a beautiful, design-conscious, focused environment for our members to work in, including all of the conveniences of an office and then some: quiet workspace, coffee, tea, kitchenette, telephone, wireless Internet, copier, scanner, printer. We also foster an encouraging community — a network of professionals open to social and professional collaboration.

The way individuals or small companies belong to Mercury Studio depends on their needs. We offer desk memberships to professionals who would like to have a permanent workspace for only their use. Cafe members, for a reduced rate, have access to all of the amenities of the space, but work in our cafe area. Studio memberships, designed for artists, include a designated work area in our art room. We also provide specially-designed memberships for multi-member operations as well as students — two populations that are very important to the Durham community. For additional fees, members can choose from optional services, including a business address, phone extension/voicemail box, and unlimited conference room use.

We also provide unique and beautiful event and meeting space right in the heart of downtown Durham.
